Gaza.. A Declared Genocide (A Turning Point in World History)
من الاغتراب إلى التشيؤ في منظور كارل ماركس
The Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies published the book **From Alienation to Reification in Karl Marx’s Perspective: “Reification” as a Marxist Approach to Analyzing and Criticizing Capitalism**, written by Ali Asaad Watfa, as part of the “Issues” series. The book includes an introduction, six chapters and a conclusion, in addition to references and a general index, and consists of 164 pages. It deals with the concepts of alienation and reification as among the most important methodological tools in the Marxist analysis of the phenomena of alienation within contemporary capitalist societies. It seeks to provide an accurate vision that clarifies the dimensions of overlap and complementarity between the two concepts, while highlighting their role in understanding the mechanisms of the capitalist system and its human and social effects. The author devotes his effort to separating the two concepts within the Marxist framework, within a new and innovative critical vision based on the theory of Georg Lukacs and the jurisprudence of critical Marxists, highlighting the way Karl Marx employed alienation and reification in analyzing the capitalist structure and explaining the relations of production and the forms of human alienation that they generate. He shows that the concept of objectification constitutes one of the major keys to understanding modern human beings. It is considered the most accurate expression of human misery and social alienation under the capitalist system. It is the sociological embodiment of the idea of alienation that has been addressed in religious, mythological and philosophical thought since ancient times, in its constant quest to liberate man from his existential suffering and restore his connection to his lost essence. The book believes that Marx's theory of alienation influenced global thought during the twentieth century, and is still relevant today in analyzing the capitalist system and its contradictions. It is a scientific model for analyzing the material and social realities, revealing the role of capitalism in robbing people of humanity. It turns it into a commodity in the network of production and consumption. With the Marxist thinker Lukács in his book History and Class Consciousness, the concept of reification became a pivotal concept in critical Marxism, revealing the idolatry of the commodity and the dominance of capitalist commodification that made humans and all values into soulless things. Then the Frankfurt School came to expand the concept and make it a basic analysis tool in criticizing capitalist modernity. Its thinkers saw that objectification was no longer only an economic phenomenon, but had also become an ontological and cultural dimension that penetrated the details of modern life, emptying man of his moral, spiritual, and mental essence, and turning him into a commodity being subject to the logic of the market, profit, and control. Thus, capitalism has turned into a system that produces modern slavery, robs man of body and soul, and undermines his ability to think critically and socialize.
