Against logic | This book is a journey to trace the impact of education on the lives of Egyptians over two centuries, through which the author, Mohamed Tawfiq, opens the treasury of untold secrets in a style that combines meticulous archival documentation with biting satire, also based on the fact that he worked as an education editor for many years. ## Extracurricular Questions The book raises many “extracurricular” questions. During his journey, the author relied on many documents; He relied on rare historical references in the Library of Alexandria, browsed microfilms in Dar al-Kutub, read the orders and correspondence of Muhammad Ali Pasha, delved into the archives of Egyptian newspapers over the course of a century and a half, found forgotten documents, looked at pictures of students in the first half of the twentieth century, scrutinized academic certificates, reviewed contracts for appointing Egyptian and foreign teachers, hunted down old papers that told new stories, and met with professors, students, and experts. Ministers of Education, parents, and conducted many journalistic adventures. ## A visit to the history of Egypt “Against Logic” is not a book that chronicles high school or education in its stages of study; Rather, it seems closer to a new visit to Egypt’s modern social history through a magnifying glass that reveals the smallest details to see how education has transformed from a tool for social advancement into a heavy task for everyone that sometimes seems “against logic.” Muhammad Tawfiq; An Egyptian journalist, he won the State Encouragement Award for his book “The King and the Writing” in 2021, as well as the “Magdy Muhanna Award” awarded by the Egyptian Journalists Syndicate for the best newspaper column of 2019, in addition to many honors. Among them was an honor from the Faculty of Arts at Ain Shams University. He worked as editor-in-chief of some print and digital newspapers, as a lecturer in a number of Egyptian universities, and presented the “Old Ink” program on Al-Ghad TV. He published seventeen books, including Cakes and Gunpowder, Ahmed Zaki 86, and Ali Wasfiyya.
