من الاستعداد للحرب إلى الاستعداد للسلام
In light of the continuous wars and renewed confrontations between the blocs, it seems that humanity cannot escape the scourge of war. Calls for deterrence and “preparedness for war” dominate, and global military spending reaches new record levels. However, war is not inevitable. If we go beyond the surface of current discussions and take a broader perspective, it becomes clear that war did not become a social institution until about 5,000 years ago, as a result of the scarcity of resources. Therefore, the basic premise of the book is that peace in the twenty-first century can only be achieved in conjunction with sustainability and prosperity for all, that is, within the framework of a market economy based on the principles of ecology and solidarity. As scarcity disappears, war can also be overcome, just as slavery, which was considered normal for thousands of years and has ceased to exist as a socially acceptable institution, can be overcome. To this end, the book presents a comprehensive picture that extends from prehistoric societies to current global crises. Drawing on wide-ranging statistical and empirical material from evolutionary anthropology, archaeology, and economics, as well as technology, climate science, and history, the book presents analyzes and hypotheses about the current situation and prospects for world peace. It is clear how our current unsustainable economic and production methods continually create new scarcity and inequalities, perpetuating a vicious cycle of poverty, overconsumption of resources, and war.
