في البيت.. سيرة أحمد أبو طالب الاستثنائية من شبابه في المغرب لمنصب عمدة روتردام
Ahmed Abu Talib's candid autobiography, in which he recalls for the first time his extraordinary life and political career: from his youth in Morocco to the position of Mayor of Rotterdam. When Ahmed Abu Talib moved from Morocco to The Hague at the age of 15, he was certain of one thing: if he wanted to succeed here, he had to master the language and start from scratch. He learned Dutch, attended a technical school, and worked in the hospitality industry. By coincidence, he ended up in journalism. When his contract was not renewed, he and his wife, Khadouj, decided that it was time for more stability with their small family. He started out as a civil servant and later moved to government advisory boards. In 2004, he succeeded Rob Oudkerk as Amsterdam city councilor. Shortly thereafter, the murder of Theo van Gogh shook the country, and Abu Talib found himself at the center of the storm with his vitriolic statements, forcing him to temporarily disappear. In 2007, he became Minister of State in Balkenende IV's government and, two years later, Mayor of Rotterdam. He is seen as a role model, but he also faces doubts. Amidst all this turmoil, he stuck to his approach to “solidarity.” After the attack on Charlie Hebdo in 2015, he made a strong impression with his sharp and passionate reaction: “If you don't value the freedom of others, pack your bags and leave.” Thewes offers an unbiased look at the life and career of Ahmed Abu Talib, in which he tells himself how he lived it all.
