##### **The book that needed to be translated more than 145 One year since its publication in French ! In which Ernest Renan reveals the background of historical Hebrew identity ###### There is a lecture by Ernest Renan about "****Islam and Science****"****, when it was published, it sparked reactions whose echoes still exist today****. Including the famous debate that took place between him and Jamal al-Din Al-Afghani****.** In his book “The History of the Children of Israel,” Ernest Renan (1823 - 1892) presents a critical vision that distinguishes between truth and myth, regarding the formation of the Hebrew identity from the time of nomadic migration that preceded settlement in the land of Canaan, then in ancient Egypt, all the way to what he considers “the final formation of Judaism,” which was achieved by the Greek Septuagint translation of the Hebrew holy books. The National Center for Translation recently issued its Arabic translation, which was done by Dalia Muhammad Al-Toukhi and Rabab Hamdi Qandil. The translation included an introduction that refutes the author’s non-objective opinions, including, for example, his statement that “Islam killed the positive philosophy that aspired to appear among some peoples when it subjected them to it.” The same introduction also refutes Renan's skepticism about the miracles that accompanied the Children of Israel during their period of wandering in Sinai and which were mentioned in the Qur’an. But they were keen to "transfer the French text to the Arab reader, with complete fidelity, without any modification, deletion, or change. However, out of concern for the feelings of the reader who is accustomed to venerating the prophets, we only added the title of the Prophet in parentheses, next to the names of the prophets mentioned in the book." The volume includes two sections or two books, according to the author’s description. The first reviews the history of the children of Israel, the rituals of the “Yahweh” religion, and how it was the first seed for the call to monotheism, after phases of pagan life, and the similarities in religion between the Semitic race and the Aryan race. It explains how the tribes of the Children of Israel were formed, what their lifestyle was like in Egypt, and how the Children of Israel influenced and were influenced by Egyptian civilization! In the second book, the author deals with the journey of crossing the Jordan River, providing a detailed description of it, the geographical features that surrounded it, and the subsequent successive invasions led by Joshua bin Nun, which resulted in the occupation of several cities adjacent to Jericho. Then he moved to the era of judges, where the judge or sofet “exactly resembled the Roman dictator and people considered him a prophet receiving revelation from heaven.”
