السعوديون السود.. الموروث الاحتماعي والتحول السياسي في المملكة
This character was the first motivation for approaching the idea of this author. Abdul-Jabbar Al-Saadoun was the first friend he met in the Hotat Khaled neighborhood, the family’s residence after their return to Riyadh from Kuwait. Through this dear man, I built other friendships and got to know the people of the neighborhood from different families, classes, and social levels at the time. Despite this, my relationship with him remained - may God have mercy on him - until the night of his death in Prince Muhammad bin Abdulaziz Hospital. That night was the conclusion of the relationship in this worldly life. He held my hand tightly as he said goodbye, and told me to “pray.” This was the last word I heard from him: Prayer... Prayer. My father, may God have mercy on him, was dissatisfied with this friendship, and he blamed me a lot, and I think the reason for that was “color,” even though my father had a few black friends and even though he was also highly cultured in his generation, he was controlled not by the stereotype that had formed about blacks, but by the fact that he, like everyone else, fell into the trap of traditional, controlling group thinking. After some time passed, my father met Abdul-Jabbar many times, in our house and other places, and got to know him closely. His outlook on him changed and he began to ask me a lot about his condition and news, and thus things went well.. and my fears that had worried me about my father dissipated. There is a weak certainty, but it is overwhelming. One day, my father surprised me with a terrible question that struck me hard; He said: If this friend of yours came forward and asked to marry one of your sisters, would you agree? The answer is, I left it forever.!
