The Great Chinese Dream: Technological Socialism and State Capitalism

الحلم الصيني الكبير: الاشتراكية التكنولوجية ورأسمالية الدولة

#### China has a plan: a combination of a social contract to provide economic and physical security for its citizens, along with a divine mandate to restore its position as the world's most powerful nation. * This plan harnesses technology for industrial development, enhances community trust, and offers citizens solutions closely linked to comfort and control. Its implicit message prompts us to ask: Don't we all want to be better citizens, have a safer environment, and live in a better world? We have a deep fear that an authoritarian regime will prove superior to our democracies and our respect for civil society and human rights. However, China's growing presence should be a catalyst for improvement and progress. Specifically, this study attempts to explain this new agenda – technological socialism coupled with state capitalism – from within China. This analysis aims to be as objective as possible when immersed in a captivating country and culture, where tradition and modernity constantly intersect in stark contrasts, and where there is also a complex conflict between narratives: those that explain the merits of its regime and its global goodwill, and those that assert that China poses an international threat and has launched an arms race in new technologies. But the reality is much more complex, with social and political goals that are radically different from what we are used to. In fact, this is contemporary China's greatest contribution: the country, its system, and its experiences exist somewhere in a possible future, and should serve as a reference for contemplating the triangle of technology, economy, and society that leads to real benefit for all.
