Guillaume Béjart de Gorbier's book "Philosophy: A User's Guide, The Five Primary Structures of Philosophy", recently published in Paris by Dunod publications, seeks to reconsider the meaning of philosophy and the conditions for its practice, away from what he calls wandering in the "museum of ideas", that is, reviewing major philosophical doctrines and theories. The French researcher seeks to propose an approach that restores philosophy to its first essence as an existential act that affects humans. This is because the act of true philosophizing is not scholastic knowledge and an exercise in memorization and comparison, or an excursion into the texts of the past that summarize the history of ideas, theories, doctrines, and their pioneers, no matter how necessary this knowledge may be. It is a personal experience and an intellectual adventure in which no one can act on behalf of anyone else. It requires courage to approach the questions that worry human existence, instead of simply observing them from a safe distance. In this book, Guillaume Béjart de Gorbert, a professor of philosophy for more than 30 years and the author of several books, addresses his students and all those interested in philosophy, calling on them to engage in this personal intellectual experience based on regularity in the questions of existence and meaning, as it entails a confrontation with what may seem unthinkable, that is, topics that he has not yet thought about, or those that he has not thought about sufficiently, and which appear in the course of life as a call demanding attention and care, or the absolute unthinking, linked to With “presence,” which can be experienced existentially through contemplation, but is impossible to reduce to concepts or language.
