Confucius is one of the most famous philosophers of ancient China. He taught the importance of every individual having good morals, which would impact all other aspects of society by promoting the same good morals in others. Lao Tzu is best known as the founder of Taoism and the author of its foundational book, the Tao Te Ching. His main beliefs centered on connecting with the universe, which he called Tao, finding balance between oneself and this universe, and achieving inner peace by cleansing oneself of greed and desire. Sun Tzu was a Chinese general and philosopher credited with writing The Art of War. Siddhartha Gautama, the original Buddha and founder of Buddhism, has his teachings recorded in many religious texts, one of which is the Dhammapada. Ashvaghosha was a devout follower of Mahayana Buddhism. His book, “The Awakening of Faith,” contributed to refuting the beliefs of this branch of Buddhism.
