The book was inspired by a free weekly newsletter that editor Rachel Mead Smith launched ten years ago, Words from the Heart, which shares hand-picked jobs and career opportunities with an engaged community of over seventy thousand people. From this community, “Looking for Work” brings together a diverse group of contributors—writers, artists, government employees, researchers, service workers, career changers, and recent graduates—with the goal of alleviating loneliness in one of the most isolated aspects of life, through collaborative creative work.
