عدسة التواطؤ.. كيف تناول إعلام أمريكا للإبادة الجماعية الإسرائيلية في غزة
This critically needed and carefully researched book examines the way the US state media has intervened in the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza, aligning its coverage with Israeli military narratives while downplaying, and even condoning, the wholesale slaughter of Palestinians. Beginning with the attack of October 7, 2023, “The Complicit Lens” subjects the mainstream press to scrutiny, contrasting it with social media reporting and international news coverage. The book reveals how mainstream media portrayed Israeli violence as defensive and justified, casting doubt on the IDF's bombing, using neutral language to exonerate itself of charges of atrocities, and repeating Israeli rhetoric, often verbatim. Massacres of people searching for food were described as “aid-related deaths,” while rocket attacks on refugees in tents were described as “tragic mistakes.” At the same time, well-worn war propaganda phrases, including allegations of child beheadings and mass rape, later shown to be unfounded, were used to justify Israeli actions and obscure responsibility. Andersen documents the targeting of journalists and aid workers in what became the bloodiest conflict in their history. It highlights editorial censorship that prevented the use of terms such as “genocide” and “massacre” in covering Palestinian deaths. As global protests against the Gaza genocide intensify, Andersen addresses the media's hostile portrayal of these uprisings, particularly those led by youth and Jewish organizations.
