تاريخ ومعاني وتصورات الفندق الحديث
تاريخ ومعاني وتصورات الفندق الحديث
Offers an interdisciplinary perspective on the physical forms and cultural symbols of the hotel. This book reviews contemporary writing on the history of modern hotels, focusing on three vital and important areas of research: the uniqueness of the American hotel, the contested status of the hotel in the colonial era and beyond, and the hotel's involvement in violent conflict. The book deals with the hotel as an institution that incubates innovation, enables business relations at various levels, and provides an arena for negotiating political, cultural and economic relations. This volume presents a number of case studies, including that of the hotel in wartime and as a target of terrorism, and critically examines innovative scholarship that links the hotel's relationship to broader narratives of Western modernity. It is directed to tourism scholars, as well as students of history and critical and applied tourism studies, at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
