Maternity writing has always received mixed treatment: on the one hand, we find the genre that defends the experience of motherhood, is often confessional in nature, and aims to highlight its intrinsic advantages; On the other hand, we find criticism that separates femininity and motherhood, which stems from some contemporary feminist trends, and generally adopts a scientific discourse. In contrast to these two genres, this article is framed as an analysis of the conditions of child-rearing in the contemporary world, while maintaining its commitment to the most important, creative and vital aspects of motherhood. Drawing on the social and cultural implications of parenting, María do Cebrero Rabadi examines parenting models imported, often subtly, from the world of work. These practices and mechanisms, which are displayed endlessly on social media, revolve around the concepts of control and self-control - that is, control of the body and emotional control, whether of the child or the mother - and in all of them, the relationship between new forms of motherhood and neoliberalism in particular is highlighted.
