الاستعمار الرقمي.. شركات التكنولوجيا بالدول الكبرى تقسم العالم فيما بينها

Innovative, powerful, ruthless – few stories are told as well as the relentless rise of technology companies to the top of the interconnected world. Only one chapter is missing from these stories: the price the Global South pays. Tech journalist Ingo Daschwitz and globalization expert Sven Helbig highlight this blind spot, revealing the global consequences of digital colonialism, as well as current approaches to achieving fairer digitization. One thing is certain: AI will not fix the situation. The promise of the digital revolution is the redemption narrative of our time. But this book tells a different story: the story of digital colonialism. Instead of invading Earth, today's colonial rulers are invading digital space. Instead of gold and diamonds, they force people to mine raw materials in inhumane conditions - the raw materials we need for our smartphones. Instead of slaves, they employ armies of online workers who work for minimal wages in sweatshop digital factories to clean up social networks or, allegedly, to keep artificial intelligence running. Contemporary colonialism may present itself as clean and intelligent, but one thing remains constant: its exploitation of people and nature and its disregard for local social consequences. In the midst of competition between neocolonial powers, digital politics has long become an instrument of geopolitical conflict, and the Global South is a victim of this conflict.
