التأريخ الفني والأيقونات بين الغرب والشرق

التأريخ الفني والأيقونات بين الغرب والشرق

Translated

This volume explores a fundamental question in art history: the extent to which iconography was a monolithic research method in its own right. By contributing to the rejection of generalized narratives, these studies show that there are many branches of iconography. Godfriedus Johannes Hoogwerf and Hans Sedlmeier proposed approaches different from Panofsky's "authoritative" approach. Researchers affiliated with the Warburg Institute in London also chose to distance themselves from Panofsky's work. In contrast, Poland was fertile ground for another distinct type of iconography. In communist Czechoslovakia, attempts were made to develop a “Marxist iconography”. This book, written by recognized experts in the field, examines these and other major trends of iconography, and tells the story of its reception in countries behind the Iron Curtain. The book will be of interest to scholars working in art history, visual studies, and historiography.
