كيف أصبحت ديمقراطية أمريكا في أزمة؟
The 21st annual Munk Debate pits award-winning journalist E. J. Dionne Jr. and influential author and blogger Andrew Sullivan, and former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Newt Gingrich and best-selling author and editor Kimberly Strassel, to discuss the current crisis of American democracy. > “Our country is now as close to crossing the line between democracy and tyranny as we have ever been in our lifetimes.” - EJ Dionne Jr. The public debate is currently on whether Donald Trump is precipitating a crisis in American democracy. Some say the answer is an emphatic “yes.” Trump's disregard for the institutions of American democracy and its political standards puts the republic in danger. The sooner his presidency collapses, the sooner he can begin to recover and put things back on track. While others believe that Trump is not the culprit in this tragedy, but rather that his presidency at the beginning is a channel, and not the cause, of deep American anger towards the wealthy and exploitative Washington elite for their own personal interests. What America needs in terms of a radical policy change is what Trump is bringing about to begin the process of restoring democracy from the people and for the people.
