#### Since the “ChatGPT” moment in November 2022, the world has changed. Overnight, language models went from a research experiment to a cultural phenomenon, becoming an integral part of our daily lives. * Johannes Auster attempts to trace this rapid development briefly. It starts from an outsider's perspective, exploring why AI's linguistic flexibility has such a magical effect on us. It explains how this technology works – how language is translated into basic building blocks (“symbols”), how its meaning is embedded in high-dimensional vector spaces as a “map of meaning,” and how AI learns the complex patterns of our language from the simple task of predicting the next symbol. Finally, it takes a critical look at the broader picture and the profound consequences of this revolution.
