The worsening climate crisis is making all types of work more difficult, dangerous and unpredictable – or if it hasn't happened yet, it will soon enough. And all kinds of workers have something to say about it. “I'll Begin Right Now” is a poetry anthology about making a living and surviving despite smoke-polluted air, fires, climate grief, species loss, and increasing fragility. Contributors include Indigenous people, migrants, ethnic minorities, low-income people, LGBT people, people with disabilities, and unpaid workers doing all kinds of work, including climate work, extractive work, migrant work, temporary work, care and service work, and traditional work. This anthology draws on long traditions of working-class literature, labor poetry, and social poetry. These poems are a way to reflect on the politics of everyday life, and a workshop for building solidarity among workers who are already struggling to survive and adapt to the climate emergency. These poems highlight shared and profound feelings of pessimism, helplessness, empathy, responsibility, resilience, and hope, which are essential in the struggle for a livable future. By linking work and environment, this anthology invites us to think and feel about the many ways in which climate change is changing our working lives.
