الحكومة المفتوحة، الدبلوماسية المفتوحة

الحكومة المفتوحة، الدبلوماسية المفتوحة

Conversations with former US diplomat Andre Goodfriend Andre Goodfriend served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Budapest from 2013 to 2015. In the absence of the ambassador, he assumed the duties of charge d'affaires most of the time. Goodfriend represented his country, and indeed the liberal democracy, in the first period of Orbán's increasingly authoritarian rule. His term was marked by his remarkable media appearance and wide popularity. This book contains a summary of conversations recorded in the fall of 2015 and in the years following his passing. Besides Goodfriend's reflections on his personal history, the main focus of the discussions is open government: its characteristics, preconditions, benefits, and relationship to modern diplomacy. The perspective of a diplomat rooted in democracy, with practical experience in an increasingly authoritarian regime, adds a special dimension to the topics at hand. These topics include anti-corruption, civil society protection, crisis prevention, education, economics, international relations, applied humanities, and the use of social and traditional media to achieve public policy goals.
