'In the near future, a government employee is offered her dream salary and, shortly thereafter, told what project she will be working on. A newly created government ministry brings together "expats" from various eras to determine if time travel is possible - not just of the body, but of the fabric of space-time. The employee is tasked with acting as a "bridge": living with, assisting and monitoring the expatriate known as "1847" or Commander Graham Gore. According to history, Commander Gore died on Sir John Franklin's ill-fated expedition to the North Pole in 1845, so he feels a bit disoriented at being with an unmarried woman who regularly exposes her legs, surrounded by strange concepts like "washing machines," "Spotify," and "the collapse of the British Empire." But with a passion for discovery, a habit of smoking seven times a day, and the support of a charming and chaotic group of expatriates, he soon adapts. Over the course of the next year, what the ship initially thought would be, at best, just a very uncomfortable accommodation affair, develops into something much deeper. By the time the truth about the Ministry's project becomes clear, the ship has fallen in a random, passionate love, with consequences she could never have imagined. Forced to confront the choices that have brought them together, Ship must finally consider how—and whether she believes—what she does next can change the future. The Ministry of Time: An original, fascinating and highly entertaining mix of genres and ideas. What does it mean to challenge history, when history is present in your home? Kalyan Bradley's answer is a glowing and unforgettable testament to what we owe each other in a changing world.
