The Center for International Relations and Diplomacy in Istanbul published the Turkish translation of the book “The Horn of Africa: Gulf Strategic Depth” by author Medwakh Ajami Al-Otaibi, professor of international relations at the Joaan bin Jassim Joint Command and Staff College in Qatar. The book was originally published by the Al Jazeera Center for Studies at the end of 2021. This book is now available to Turkish speakers around the world. It aims to present geopolitical, geoeconomic, and geocultural facts about the Horn of Africa as a strategic depth to the Arabian Gulf region, and seeks to answer a set of questions, such as: To what extent does the Horn of Africa constitute one of the components of the strategic depth of the Arabian Gulf region? What is the nature of the hard data that distinguishes the Gulf and the Horn of Africa regions, which makes each of them strategic depth for the other? What are the best ways to build Gulf strategic depth in the Horn of Africa according to the logic of strategic partnerships? The book "The Horn of Africa: Strategic Depth in the Gulf Region", which is originally a doctoral thesis, is based on the premise that the strategic depth of international politics in the new world order is based on a complementary relationship that reflects the common interests between the parties concerned with defining strategic relations with the aim of confronting common political, economic and security challenges. Therefore, the book seeks to link the security and stability of the Horn of Africa to the security and stability of the Gulf region. The importance of the book lies in the fixed and realistic data that qualify the Horn of Africa to be a strategic depth in the Gulf region, such as geographical proximity, historical ties, and civilizational and cultural interaction, as well as the changing elements such as the political will of the Gulf states to interact with vital issues in the Horn of Africa region, and the strategic vision of the elites in the Horn of Africa towards Gulf volunteer work. The book also highlights the strengths that characterize the Horn of Africa as strategic opportunities that contribute to building the strategic depth of the Gulf states.
