Richard J. Davidson, Ph.D., is the William James and Vilas Research Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry, and founder and director of the Center for Healthy Minds at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Davidson founded the non-profit Healthy Minds Innovations, which aims to transform science into tools to promote and measure mental health. He holds a doctorate in psychology from Harvard University and is known for his pioneering work in the study of emotion and the brain. He has published more than 602 articles, numerous chapters and reviews, and has edited seventeen books. Davidson co-authored the book The Emotional Life of Your Brain with Sharon Begley, and Daniel Goleman co-authored Changing Traits. Davidson is one of the most cited scientists in the world and was named one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People. He was elected to the National Academy of Medicine and appointed to the Board of Directors of the UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Education for Peace and Sustainable Development. Davidson is a highly sought-after speaker, leading conversations on mental health at international platforms such as the World Economic Forum, where he served on the World Council on Mental Health.
