عروش وجيوش الجزيرة العربية!
_The book “The Armies of the Arabian Peninsula”_ is the first comprehensive analysis of the armed forces of the Arab Gulf states, including their political, social and economic characteristics, their foreign relations, and their performance on the battlefields. The Arabian Peninsula is classified among the most important strategic and economic regions in the world, but its armies are still unknown. In this book - the first of its kind to comprehensively analyze the armed forces of the Arab Gulf states - Zoltan Baranyi explains their known ineffectiveness with a combination of political, structural, social and cultural factors. Drawing on more than 150 interviews and careful interdisciplinary research, Barani paints a captivating picture of the armies of the Arabian Peninsula from the time of the Ibn Saud Brothers to the present day. It explores the methods used by ruling families to ensure the loyalty of their armies, examines the backgrounds and career paths of soldiers and officers, and explains these states' reliance on mercenaries and the enduring importance of tribal networks. Despite being the only region in the world that spends more on security than any other, the militaries of the Arabian Peninsula remain ineffective due to a lack of meritocracy, the dominance of personal relationships over institutional norms, weak leadership, lax work ethics, and a lack of training in terms of intensity, frequency, and keeping up with modern scenarios.
