Gaza in front of history

غزة أمام التاريخ

Is the destruction of Gaza a result of the October 7 attack, or is it part of a long process of oppression, eradication, extermination and occupation? Do the Palestinian people have the right to resist? Occupation? Is talking about genocide anti-genocide? In his book recently published by Lux Editeur publishing house, entitled “Gaza in the Face of History,” the Italian thinker Enzo Traverso attempts to provide answers different from those prevailing in the West. Where “Israel” is described as an island of “democracy,” and Hamas is described as a “brutal army of sand dwellers.” Presents [The Thinker Italian](https://www.alaraby.co.uk/culture/%D9%85%D8%A7%D8%B1%D8%AA%D8%B4%D9%8A%D9%84%D9%84%D9%88 -%D9%81%D9%8A%D9%86%D9%8A%D8%AA%D8%B3%D9%8A%D8%A7%D9%86%D9%8A-%D8%AC%D8%A7%D9%85%D8%A8%D8%A7%D8%AA %D9%8A%D8%B3%D8%AA%D8%A7-%D9%81%D9%8A%D9%83%D9%88-%D9%88%D8%B0%D9%87%D9%86%D9%8C-%D8%A8%D8%B7%D9%8 8%D9%84%D9%8A%D9%91-%D9%8A%D8%AA%D9%88%D8%A7%D8%B1%D8%AB%D9%87-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AC%D9%86%D9%88%D8%A8 “Marcello Veneziani...Gambattista Vico and a heroic mind inherited from the South” is a brief political text in which it deals with how to build the positions of executioners and victims. His starting point is the paradoxical spectacle that “Israel,” while destroying Gaza and carrying out genocide there, presents itself as a victim of “the largest massacre in history since the Holocaust.” Since the Holocaust is a constant reference for Israelis, Traverso draws some comparisons to World War II and speaks of “a kind of reverse Nuremberg trials” where crimes committed by the Nazis are not judged, but atrocities committed by the Allies. In this sense, it brings to mind the German debate about the Hitlerite past, in which the conservative historian Ernst Nolte defined Nazi crimes as a "reaction" to the threat of Bolshevism, and thus the victims were Germans, not Jews. After presenting this similarity, Traverso points out that to justify its crimes, Zionist colonialism propagates that the victims are the Israelis, not the Palestinian people. In the face of this distortion and inversion of the position of the victim and the perpetrator, the Italian thinker adopts the definition of genocide set by the United Nations Convention of 1948, to define what is happening in the Gaza Strip, where for him the matter is not a matter of war between two armies, but rather a unidirectional, continuous and merciless destruction, aiming systematically to eliminate a group of urban centers inhabited by nearly two million people in Palestine. It is the logic of genocide, and it is carried out by an army that possesses a war machine and very advanced technology. The book "Gaza in the Face of History" constitutes a strong call against the criminal acts carried out by "Israel", which are supported politically and materially by imperialist countries, especially since its author is a famous Italian thinker who specializes in the issue of Judaism and the Holocaust.
