التهديد الشوفيني: حرب روسيا ورد فعل الغرب
التهديد الشوفيني: حرب روسيا ورد فعل الغرب
Many attempts have been made to explain Russia's fateful decision to invade Ukraine, but respected political scientist Sabine Fischer argues that we can only fully understand Russian foreign policy and its war of aggression against Ukraine by placing Russian nationalism at the heart of our analysis. Fisher argues that Putin's regime has long been driven by a combination of aggressive nationalism, sexism and authoritarianism: together, these three elements constitute the nationalist threat emanating from Moscow that led to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. As a respected international expert on Russia and Eastern Europe, with decades of experience in EU-Russia relations, Fisher enriches her analysis with observations drawn from her personal experiences in Russia and Eastern Europe over the past 30 years, including conversations with prominent Russian politicians and colleagues shortly before and after the invasion. It shows that the nationalist threat emanating from Moscow threatens not only Ukraine but also liberal democracy and the rules-based global order, and outlines the steps liberal democracies should take to confront this danger. Using a feminist perspective and highlighting the sexism of Putin's regime and its explosive interaction with nationalism and authoritarianism, this book makes an important contribution to understanding both the brutal war in Ukraine and the serious threats that all liberal democracies face today.
