القصص أسلحة... الحرب النفسية والعقل الأمريكي
Psychological warfare is the war of our time. Because it contributes to changing behaviors and convictions, its field is usually individuals and communities. In the midst of this type of war, the masses are exposed to a barrage of ideas and trends that affect the formation of their awareness over long periods of time. Which makes them take root within her subconscious mind, until these ideas turn into convictions and axioms. Hence, propaganda, disinformation, and carefully crafted narratives may be as effective as military force in shaping public opinion, inciting fear, and reinforcing social division. In this context, the book “Stories are Weapons... Psychological Warfare and the American Mind” by Annalee Newitz traces the way in which misinformation, propaganda, and violent threats, as basic tools of psychological warfare, have evolved from weapons used against external enemies to tools in the internal cultural wars in American society. Newitz reads American history through the lenses of propaganda and psychological processes, looking at the weaponization of storytelling in today's culture wars, as well as at ancient propaganda campaigns to justify white supremacy, anti-Black racism, the extermination of indigenous peoples, and the erasure of their cultures.
