بحارة لا يستطيعون السباحة
بحارة لا يستطيعون السباحة
On the island of Yes, located somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, safety lies behind the high city walls - where the citizens live in luxurious security while the beach dwellers below rebuild their ruined homes after every high tide. Danae Bossun is an orphan and a skilled swimmer, a rare and suspicious talent on Yes Island. She was born for the sea, but longs for a life within the city walls. Moving between beach, city, and open sea, she navigates her way through the difficult choices open to women—from salt worker to thief to aristocrat to sailor's wife—and learns to transcend the sexual and class indignities that precede the lull before revolution. It reflects our times, revealing the baseness of meritocracy and the arbitrariness of citizenship in a world where all our possessions, or privileges, belonged first to others.
