#### Religion plays a pivotal role in Africa, and its importance has recently increased rather than decreased. Although most Africans today are Christians or Muslims, they are strongly influenced by their authentic religious heritage. There is enormous diversity in indigenous African religions. * This book offers an introduction to the inner African heritage, and deals with five carefully selected African religions of peoples with different traditional cultures. Through it we learn about “shamanism” among the San people in South Africa. Monotheism of the Maasai, “ancestor worship” among the Sukuma people in East Africa, what is known as idol worship among the Congolese in Central Africa, and the worship of various gods among the Yoruba people in West Africa. A comparative chapter also discusses the growing problems related to the phenomenon of magic and sorcery.
