السياسة الجنسية في إنجلترا الثورية
Sexual Politics in Revolutionary England chronicles a radical shift in English sexual discourse that unfolded during the kingdom's civil wars in the mid-seventeenth century. In Stuart England, explicit sexual talk was largely confined to manuscripts and oral texts, as a result of regulatory pressures imposed by the church publishing body, as well as entrenched cultural notions of politeness and propriety. However, during the early 1640s, explicit sexual discourse exploded in polemical publications for the first time in English history. Over the next two decades, sexual politics developed into a vital element of public discourse, as contemporaries used sexual satire to recast the English Revolution as a battle between the lecherous tyrants of the Stuarts and their lustful, Puritan enemies. By the time Charles II regained the throne in 1660, this book argues, sex had already become a staple of English political culture.
