The Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies published the book The Afghanistan Papers: A Secret History of the War, as part of the Tarjuman series, written by Craig Whitlock and translated by Ahmed Tariq Al-Bohi, in 448 pages, including an introduction by the translator, eleven chapters, and a general index. Secrets of America's longest war come to light. Investigative journalist Craig Whitlock, in his book The Afghanistan Papers, published in 2021, presents a comprehensive and shocking condemnation of the longest war fought by the United States of America. It is based on thousands of secret government documents obtained by The Washington Post through the Freedom of Information Act, revealing a complex web of misinformation, mismanagement, and denial within the corridors of American decision-making for two decades. The book shows how successive US administrations - from George Bush to Barack Obama and then Donald Trump - presented optimistic and misleading narratives about the course of the war, despite their internal awareness of failure and lack of vision. The book's central argument is clear and frank: the American war in Afghanistan was based on illusions, not on a clear strategy or specific goals. The author likens what he revealed to the "Pentagon Papers" that exposed the Vietnam War, stressing that history is repeating itself again. As in Vietnam, American leaders in Afghanistan relied on political rhetoric aimed at maintaining public support, while internal reports revealed exactly the opposite. “We had no idea what we were doing,” says one military commander in a famous quote from the book; This is a phrase that sums up the entire tragedy of the war.
