The Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies published the book **Difficult Paths: The Palestinian National Movement in the Biography of Salah Khalaf (Abu Iyad) 1933-1971 **, within a series of publications, written by Moin Al-Taher and Mona Awadallah, and is 479 pages, including a preface and an introduction. Seven chapters and appendices, in addition to a list of images, references, and a general index. The book deals with the rich biography of Salah Khalaf, known as Abu Iyad, from his birth until 1971, in its intersection and intertwining with the paths of the Palestinian national movement and its profound transformations. The text traces the roots of his upbringing in Jaffa and Gaza, and dwells at length on his early involvement in national and student work, and his founding role in launching the Palestinian National Liberation Movement “Fatah” and formulating its revolutionary and political approaches, where he combined a solid realistic vision with adherence to armed struggle as a way to achieve the desired democratic state. Abu Iyad was known in his political life as “the man of secret missions” and “the keeper of PLO secrets,” but he presented himself as a realistic man who was honest with himself and his cause. The book's material is based on a huge archive of documents and recordings that the man left behind, to shed light on his personality and career, and thus opens a wide door to rereading the experience of the contemporary Palestinian national movement.
